"Blogging from the beach in Brighton, England!
It was chilly in Ireland and Scotland but I've finally made it back to some warm weather. I'm staying in London for a few days but since it's unusually hot there I decided to visit the coastal town of Brighton. The piers and boardwalks are full of brightly colored signs with exciting typography and there are eye-catching visuals at every corner.
If you've ever been to a beach town then you're familiar with the fun chaos that happens in these streets! Many of the store-fronts have large fish-shaped decor hanging outside, colored canopies with bold logos, standing chalkboard signs, and over-sized advertisements that are all being placed right in your pathway. Walking down these streets is comparable to walking down the aisle at the grocery store, as it raises the same challenge we come across when designing packages: how do we stand out to our consumers against our competitors? This challenge is one of the reasons I love package design so much - using the elements of design to visually communicate the product in a way that speaks to our consumers is always a fun and exciting task that test my abilities.
Below is a small display of the types of graphic design (which includes a few packages and labels) that have stood out to me during my travels. Enjoy!"
